Peace and comfort: 3 keys to reducing anxiety and stress at home

Stress is not exclusive to humans. Changes in routine, moving, loud noises from outside, or simply a lack of predictability can cause our four-legged companions to live in a constant state of alert. A safe and structured home environment is the best preventive medicine to avoid behavioral problems and ensure their emotional well-being.

1. Maintain predictable routines and cues

Animals love routine. Knowing what will happen and when it will happen provides them with enormous emotional stability. When feeding, walking, or rest schedules change drastically every day, the animal enters a state of uncertainty.

Try to maintain more or less fixed time slots for the key moments of the day. Also, use clear cues: if you are leaving the house, use a specific word always in the same calm way (like "I'll be right back"). Over time, they will associate that word with the fact that you are leaving but will return, reducing separation anxiety.

2. Take care of the quality of their resting areas

Not all pet beds are the same, nor are all places in the house suitable for resting. A dog or cat needs to feel that their sleeping place is safe, soft, and impenetrable.

Make sure that:

  • The bed is located away from cold drafts and out of constant thoroughfares (such as narrow hallways or near the main door).

  • The size is adequate so they can stretch out completely if they wish.

  • The support is correct for their joints: a FEANDREA orthopedic dog bed is perfect for providing optimal pressure relief, improving sleep quality in both young and senior dogs.

  • The surface is soft and easy to wash to maintain good hygiene.

Quality rest during the day reduces irritability and significantly improves the pet's overall temperament.

3. Soundscape and relaxing environment

The hearing of dogs and cats is much more sensitive than ours. Traffic noise, street construction, or slamming doors can generate cumulative micro-stress without us realizing it.

To counteract this, you can create a muffled sound environment inside the house. Playing soft classical music, sound frequencies designed for pets, or simply leaving a fan running as white noise helps to isolate sudden outside sounds. Combining this with dim lighting in the evenings helps synchronize their biological rhythms for restorative sleep.
